I love DIY. The desire to have everything done with your own hands and be able enjoy it afterwards is a truly rewarding experience. But there’s a major problem; I’m totally useless when it comes to building/making things. Whenever people visit my mum and dad’s place in Wollongong, dad always finds great humour in showing the 8 hammer marks in the wood around the one nail i was trying to hit when I helped build their deck about 10 years ago. So I vicariously loved every little bit of Shayne and Nat’s wedding totally homespun wedding, the ultimate in family/community DIY!
It was a miserable rainy weekend in the beautiful northern rivers of NSW so the travel there from Brisbane was a little treacherous, but arriving in a remote, isolated place like that reminds you why people still want to live in the country.
But you could tell, there was a wedding nearby!
Midginbill Hill is a beautiful place. Hills, rivers, trees, grass and a beautiful view of Mt Warning. The plan was to have a bus to drive everyone to the top of a hill under a beautiful tree overlooking a mountain range for the ceremony but alas, mother nature had her way with us.

One last celebratory drink before the ceremony!
I believe my words before this photo were “OK Nat, just a little more attitude”. THIS my friends, is attitude!
The cake toppers!
Everyone loves a photobooth!
Cocktails were abound and as I left for my 2 hour drive home at around 11pm, the party was still raging!
This guy was an amazing dancer!
Now if only I can figure out how to hammer nails in and glue things together, this DIY wedding thing won’t seem such a challenge!
Thanks Shayne and Nat for being lovely people, your desire for a wedding filled with family, love and friendship was 100% what you delivered.
